Special Olympics is a global movement to unleash the human spirit through the transformative power and joy of sport.




Special Olympics of Pennsylvania - Crawford County provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. While some of our athletes do have physical disabilities, most of our athletes have some level of cognitive impairment. Currently there are an estimated 293 athletes in Crawford County competing in 9 sports (Fall: Bocce, Long Distance Walk/Run, Volleyball, Powerlifting and Bowling. Winter/Spring: Floor Hockey, Athletics, Aquatics, and Basketball.

Sports trainings are led by SOPA certified coaches.

Each year specific dates, times and practice places will be announced, but as a general rule:

Volleyball, Bocce and Long Distance Run/Walk typically begin in August.
Bowling starts in September. Floor Hockey & Aquatics start in December
Athletics and Basketball starts in February.

Special Olympics Pennsylvania Crawford County supports the following Competitions for which we provide transportation, meals and rooms.

Regional Competitions:
Western Fall Sectionals
Western Bowling Sectionals
Western Spring Sectionals at Clarion, PA.

State Competitions:
Fall Festival at Villanova University and Summer Games at Penn State University

Local Competition: Annual Track and Field Meet in Spring usually 2nd week in May; Bowling Tournaments at the Plaza Lanes in Meadville and Lost Lanes in Cambridge Springs, PA.
