Hands of light school of tai chi and qigong

Tai Chi and Qi Gong,

Tai Chi and Qi Gong are part of Chinese culture, they are not religions although they originate from the Taoist philosophy and are practiced by Taoist and Buddhist monks as part of meditation. In China, balance in all things is promoted as a way of life , practicing Tai Chi and Qi Gong helps to promote balance within the lifestyle as a way of improving mental and physical health.

Qi Gong is an exercise system that is an integral part of Chinese Medicine with herbal medicine and acupuncture. It is prescribed by Chinese doctors as part of a lifestyle regime to keep their patients healthy. Eastern medicine believes that there is a system of meridians within the body that transports Chi, if Chi is free flowing the body is healthy however a blockage of Chi can cause ill-health. Qi Gong exercises promote the movement of Chi through the meridians encouraging good health. Qi Gong exercises are the basis of Tai Chi.

Tai Chi is a sequence of Qi Gong postures that have been developed into ‘forms’ over many years by Chinese families. There are several styles of Tai Chi that relate to the family who practices that style. In Hands of Light School your training will be on the Yang family style and Wudang Sand Feng. As you develop you will have the opportunity to learn different styles. Tai Chi, practiced in this way is a martial art although you won’t be taught martial arts moves until you have learned about the ’hard and soft’ balance of Chi and how to use your knowledge.
