Founded in 1986, Special Needs Integration Projects is a charity which helps children, young people and adults with learning disabilities in S W. Leicestershire.
People with learning disabilities often miss out on the everyday social activities which the rest of us take for granted.
They also lack opportunities to socialise and meet people of their own age, which has an effect on their confidence and self-esteem.
Many young people attend school outside their own neighbourhood so making local friends is difficult.
Local clubs and amenities are scarce these days and accessing them may require a degree of confidence, ability and communication skill which many youngsters do not possess.
Boredom, loneliness and frustration may result which can have a negative effect on parents and siblings as they struggle to maintain family life.
